Yearlong Spanish 1
Dear parents and students,
As part of our initiative to provide the most challenging curriculum available, Northbrook Middle School offers high school Level I Spanish to rising seventh graders for the upcoming school year. If you are interested in this two-year commitment, please be mindful of the following information:
-
Students who master the foreign language standards successfully will be given the option of receiving a Carnegie Unit for high school credit, and most will go on to Level II Spanish in the ninth grade, based on teacher recommendation. Although the classes are scheduled during Connections, the content is academic, just like any other core class. This requires students to be self motivated, organized and prepared for class. Attendance is very important. Absences, including early check-outs, are not conducive to success in the foreign language classroom.
-
Students who enter the program are expected to commit to the two-‐year sequence, thus taking up one of their two Connections classes each semester for two consecutive years. Therefore, Spanish language students who also participate in the yearlong music classes, for example, will not have any other Connections classes in seventh and eighth grades.
Due to limited space, a lottery system may be used to determine placement in the program. If you and your child are interested in placement into the yearlong Spanish language program, please complete the online interest form by Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
