8th Grade

The final copy of the rising PRHS Freshman Academy Handbook is here for the class of 2029!  We will spend time diving into the contents of this handbook during advisement from November through January.  We encourage families to review the handbook at home prior to beginning the registration process for high school classes in the spring. 

Freshman Academy Handbook

On Wednesday 11/20/24 Peachtree Ridge Elective teachers presented the following slideshow to Northbrook 8th graders.  The presentation includes QR codes and information about elective opportunities available to rising 9th grade students.  Students will have a chance to learn more about elective choices in Advisement during the months of December and January.  Please review the following slideshow with your students to better understand their options as a rising 9th grader. 

Scoliosis Exams for Sixth and Eighth Grade Students - October 16 

Scoliosis screening is required for all students in grades 6 and 8 who attend public school in Georgia. The screening is done yearly in the middle school grades as required by State Law (O.C.G.A. § 20-2-772), Department of Community Health, and State Department of Education guidelines.

Northbrook Middle School will support scoliosis screening on October 16. You may opt out of scoliosis screening for your student by signing and returning the #4400 form by October 14.

If you DO NOT want your child screened for scoliosis, complete the opt-out form and have your medical provider complete the #4400 form. Please return the opt-out #4400 form to your child’s homeroom teacher by October 14.

8th / 9th PSAT 

As part of our college and career readiness efforts at Northbrook Middle School, we strive to set all students up for success. 

That’s why we’re offering the PSAT 8/9—the first test in the SAT Suite of Assessments—to our 8th grade students. 

Results from the PSAT 8/9 help us establish a baseline for each student as they start their high school journey. The results help us focus classroom instruction and support our students’ growth. 

Taking the PSAT 8/9 can also help our students to: 

▪ Understand their strengths, and what skills they need to work on. 

▪ Find out what AP® courses they’re ready to take. 

▪ Explore personalized career insights aligned to their score. 

The PSAT 8/9 is administered in a digital format that provides an overall easier testing experience for students. Watch this video to see what students can expect with the digital PSAT 8/9. Our students will take the PSAT 8/9 on October 29,2024 using their school issued device. Attached is the PSAT 8/9 Student Guide - PSAT Student Guide. Students at Northbrook will be taking the PSAT 8/9 on Tuesday, October 29th using their school assigned Chromebook.  Prior to taking the PSAT 8/9 students will complete a Digital Readiness Check to prepare for the test.  The Digital Readiness Check will occur in school on Monday, October 21st.  For students to prepare for the test, it is recommended that they review the PSAT 8/9 Student Guide prior to taking the assessment.
